Church leaders supported in theological education

The Danish Moravian Mission supports theological training of priests and church leaders in DR Congo, Burundi and Tanzania.

Early February 2020, one of them, Jacques Bya'unda Byames, graduated. He is pastor and chairman of the Moravian Church in DR Congo, Kivu Sud Province and completed a Bachelor of Theology from Hope Africa University in Bujumbura in Burundi. He is now continuing his studies for a Master´s degree in Theology.

For years Jacques has been a key figure in the partnership between Danish Moravian Mission and the Moravian Church in DR Congo. He regularly visits the orphanage in Uvira, which we support financially, and he also prepares the upcoming school building in the refugee camp at Goma in close cooperation with our danish missionary Knud Elmo Knudsen.

In Burundi, we have also made a grant to Secretary-General Edouard Nsengiyumva's master's studies in theology, also in Bujumbura. Supporting a quality education of the pastors and leaders of the Moravian Church has a high priority for the Danish Moravian Mission.

The long-term perspective with this focus is, through education, to equip our partners so that they can take responsibility and serve for the best of their congregations and the community in large.

In addition to Jacques and Edouard, we are currently supporting pastor David Mgombele, who is studying for a PhD degree. Mgombele is Secretary-General for the Moravian Church throughout Tanzania.
